Post and Telephone in TurkeyTurkey’s postal services are relatively well organized and efficient. All post offices bear the distinctive yellow PTT sign (Post, Telephone, Telegraph). Larger and central offices are open from 8:00 AM- 12:00 PM in main cities.

You can buy stamps in post offices. As a general rule, if you are not close to a post office, you can leave your postcards at hotel receptions with some cash; they will mail them for you. Mailing international postcards from Turkey is 0.80 TL (around 0,50 USD). Prices for letters vary according to the size or weight.  Please check the Postal Service website for further details.

Regarding the telephone services in Turkey, all cities are linked by an efficient direct dialing system.  Public phones that can be found in most areas of the cities operate by TT cards, magnetic cards, credit cards or smart cards. These public phones are available at places such as squares, hospitals, bus terminals, train stations, seaports, airports, under ground stations, etc. Cards are sold by Turk Telekom and its dealers. TT cards are calling cards that you can use from any phone.

The international country code for Turkey is +90. All over Turkey, phone numbers consist of two sections: area code (3 digits) and the number itself (7 digits).  Weekdays from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM and on weekends, call fees are cheaper than business hours and one can speak longer with the same amount of phone credit. There are 3 mobile GSM operators in Turkey.  Turkcell is the largest operator and its phone code is 53X.  Vodafone is rather new in Turkey (compared to Turkcell) and its code is 54X and Avea's code is 55X.
