The tourism industry plays a most important role in the Bahamian economy and the hotel sector makes a major contribution in this effort. Most hotels in The Bahamas front acres of white sandy beaches and turquoise ocean. Hotels in Nassau on the New Providence Island are situated in 3 main areas - Cable Beach (The Bahamian Riviera), Downtown Nassau and the Paradise Island.

The second largest city in the Bahamas, Freeport, on the island of Grand Bahama, offers a wide variety of excellent hotels and there are various resorts and smaller hotels dotted amongst the out islands, known as the Family Islands.

Bahamas Hotels are not rated according to any rigid worldwide accepted classification system. The word "deluxe" is often used when actually "first class" is usually the more appropriate term. Accordingly "first class" itself isn’t usually first class. Even in the deluxe and first class resorts and hotels, you shouldn’t expect a top tier service and quality.
